Recent quilt and cross-stitch finishes
I’ve been stitching more than finishing lately, but oh well.
Above: mug rug and mug for my quilt guild’s Christmas party exchange. Details below:
Basically, improvised piecing snowflake and random backing, free motion quilting for a spiky ice crystal effect.
It was very well received, which made me relieved, considering that my father seemed to think it was some sort of “North Korean” barbed wire or some such crap.
Anyway, the other quilt finish I have is I made a new name tag for guild meetings. This was my first time working so small with piecing (it was done before the snowflake mug rug that also has pieces as narrow as 1/4″ plus seam allowances).
And now on to cross-stitching. I’m now doing the FlossTube videos which do get posted here, but hey, sometimes still photos are clearer than me waving an item a couple feet in front of the camera. So, with that in mind:
Above and below: ornament patterns are from Just CrossStitch’s 2017 Christmas ornament special issue. Finishing idea for below is a hybrid of Vonna Pfeiffer’s mounted flatfold tutorial and Priscilla Blain’s various embellished plaque mounts, the tree ornament above just happened to perfectly fit in a teeny ornament photo frame I got at Michael’s and I was lazy so I went with it.
Below: Little House Needleworks’ “Home Sweet Home.” As I mentioned in my latest FlossTube, I kinda wish I’d used a lighter background or done the lettering in the yellow for more readability, but oh well. It’s simply folded to sit in the frame, so I can easily take it out and unpick the lettering to redo them, I just haven’t bothered yet.
